Video Hello everyone, and welcome to our fourteenth developer update.
This developer update we don't have too many new features to give show you guys, so we will go into some of the back-end bugfixes and integration we've been doing to get the codebase ready, as well as sharing a special announcement. Without any further ado...
There will be a Community Test on April 23rd.
This test will run from 23 April 2024, 16:00 UTC to 25 April 2024, 16:00 UTC, and will feature a new map that will be integrated into City 17 in the first major update. We will be looking to test performance, some new rendering tricks, our weapons, some UI elements, and our ragdoll system on a larger scale. We hope to see you there!
Heading back to our regular devlog, this week we've been working heavily on integrating all of our systems together, but let's take a moment to explain what that actually entails. First, all features are merged into an unstable environment that has only a small section of the map for testing purposes. We then run everything through trials to find any and all bugs and conflicts, make fixes, and repeat the process. Once everything is actually working, we merge it to a closed copy of City 17 called the Unstable Test Environment (UTE). In the UTE, we run our actual internal tests until we stabilize the game.
We split our development into multiple place files like this so that we can organize what features are in what state before shipping them to the 'live' game, hopefully ensuring we release updates that don't break everything.
In the video, we're going to showcase a few of these bugs along with how we've taken some steps to mitigate them.
We are currently focused exclusively on bugfixing and testing at this stage before we merge any new features into the game!
